Books
The book collection includes approximately 300,000 volumes. Holdings are distributed between the main and branch libraries. Search the online catalogue to find in which library the item you are looking for is located.
A large collection of textbooks has been gathered together at the lending desk for the use of students. The latest editions of textbooks are also accessible in the Reading Room.
The Library subscribes to a variety of e-books. They are available on the following platforms: Ibuk, Access Medicine, Access Surgery, MyiLibrary, elibrary, Medicines Complete, Ebrary Academic Complete and can be found using the e-resources search engine. The electronic resources are available for authorised users from any computer in the Jagiellonian University network and remotely from your own devices (see Remote Access).
The Medical Library subscribes to over 8,000 e-journals including the most important peer-reviewed international medical journals. In the Reading Room, we also provide access to over 300 Polish print journals published in the last five years. Issues published earlier are stored in the closed stacks. Some journals are also accessible in the branch libraries.
Academic Dissertations
Habilitation theses submitted to the Jagiellonian University Medical College and doctoral dissertations defended here are catalogued by subject and the MeSH heading ‘Academic Dissertation’ is added. Use the online catalogue to search for academic dissertations.
Doctoral dissertations defended after the year 2004 at the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Pharmacy or Faculty of Health Sciences are accessible via the Digital Medical Library website if the author so agrees. Please visit Doctoral Dissertations for more information.
Printed Materials (19th – early 20th century)
Our 19th and early 20th century holdings contain books and periodicals both in Polish and other languages. It is one of the most interesting and extensive collections of old medical literature in Poland.
Books and periodicals published before 1945 are stored in the closed stacks. You can order them to the reading room after searching in the library catalog.
